this time frame.
Most lawn experts agree that many residents over-water their lawns and offer
the following advice: established lawns only need 1 inch of water per week;
water in the early morning or evening when evaporation rates are lowest; do
not water during rain; and avoid over watering, which actually creates a
weak grass plant that cannot tolerate drought or pests.
Residents are reminded that if they
have lawn irrigation systems that functioning backflow preventers MUST be
installed on the system to prevent backflow contamination.
Please note that the
Onset Water Department will be closed on the following holidays, Patriots
Day-April 18th, Memorial Day-May 30th, Independence Day-July 4th, Labor
Day-September 5th, Columbus Day-October 10th, Veterans Day-November 11th,
Thanksgiving-November 24th & 25th, Christmas-December 26th.
Painting of fire hydrants will be a
priority of the Onset Water Dept for the coming summer. Painting will be
achieved as time and work load permits. We may also be using community
service individuals to complete this process.
The Board of Water
Commissioners has awarded the contract for the construction of the pumping
station and the installation of the water main. Winston Builders of Westboro,
MA was the successful bidder and construction should begin soon.
NOTICE: The OWD will be making an aggressive effort to recycle outdated water meters. Residents are asked to please put an up to date phone number on their water bills when payment is made.
